The unemployment rate in India rose marginally in April 2022 to 7.8%, as per the latest data released by CMIE.

Unemployment levels rose more sharply in urban India than in rural areas. The unemployment levels in urban India touched a 4-month high of 9.2% in April. In comparison, rural unemployment dropped marginally from 7.3% in March to 7.2% in April.

Haryana recorded the highest level of unemployment at 34.5% across India in Apr'22, followed by Rajasthan at 28.8%. Himachal Pradesh recorded the lowest level of unemployment across India in Apr'22 at 0.2%, followed by Chhattisgarh at 0.6%.
