The Unorganized sector comprises of establishment/units which are engaged in the production or sale of goods and services and employ less than 10 workers. These units are not covered under ESIC & EPFO.
eSHRAM, developed by the Ministry of Labour & Employment is the first-ever national database of unorganised workers including migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers, etc. The workers registered in eSHRAM have their Aadhar card linked to their accounts. The database contains details of name, occupation, address, educational qualification, skill types and family details for the optimum realization of their employability and extension of the benefits of the social security schemes to them. Any worker who is unorganized and aged between 16-59, is eligible to register on the eSHRAM portal.

TOTAL REGISTRATIONS
- 27.05 crore workers from the unorganised sector were registered in the eSHRAM database as of March 2022, 3.2% higher than in the previous month.
GENDER MIX
- 12.77 crore workers (47.2%) registered as of Mar'22 were males while females comprised 52.8% of the total registrations.
AGE MIX
- 61.4% of the 27.05 crore workers registered as of Mar'22 were between the ages 18-40 years. 22% were between 40-50 years.
- 45.4% of the 27.05 crore workers registered as of Mar'22 belonged to the Other Backward Castes (OBC) category. 21% belonged to the Scheduled Castes (SC) category, 8.1% belonged to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category, and 25.5% belonged to the General category
