  • Annual production of foodgrains touched 3,086.5 lakh tonnes in 2020-21, a 3.7% increase over the previous year. Production of pulses increased by 11.7% in 2019-20 while rice production increased by 2.9% over the previous year.
  • Amongst the major commercial crops, coffee had the biggest increase in production (18.7%) in 2020-21, while cotton, tea and raw jute production declined by 1.9%, 5.9% and 3.2% respectively.

  • The yield for foodgrains increased by 1.8% in 2020-21 over the previous year. The yield for all foodgrains combined was 2,386 kg/hectare in 2020-21 in comparison to 2,343 kg/hectare a year ago.
  • The yield for rice dropped by 0.3% in 2020-21 while that of pulses increased by 8.4%.
  • Amongst the major commercial crops, the yield for groundnut dropped by 18.8% in 2020-21 while that of coffee increased by 10.8%.
