Food Security Index

The Global Food Security Index, produced by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and supported by Corteva Agriscience, is the first to examine food security comprehensively across the three internationally established dimensions. It looks beyond hunger to the underlying factors affecting food insecurity and considers the core issues of affordability, availability, and quality across 113 countries. It also includes an adjustment factor on natural resources and resilience. The index is a dynamic quantitative and qualitative benchmarking model, constructed from 34 unique indicators, that measures these drivers of food security across both developing and developed countries.

  • India's performance on the Availability indicator in 2021 improved marginally by 1.4% over the previous year - from 64.1% in 2020 to 65.7% in 2021
  • Quality & Safety performance level in 2021 is 59.1%, a minuscule rise of 0.1% over 2020.
  • Natural Resource & Resilience performance levels, after having remained between 40-41% since 2013, shot up to 52.8% in 2021.
