The Legislative Assembly of Gujarat, also known as the Gujarat Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 182 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Gandhinagar, the capital of the state.
The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Gujarat were held in Dec 2017.

The 14th Legislative Assembly of Gujarat formed post the elections held in Dec 2017 consists of 182 MLAs. BJP secured the highest count of 99 seats in the 2017 Assembly elections, comfortably crossing the majority mark of 92 seats to form the government. Subsequently there were many changes in the composition of the assembly based on the bye-elections held in specific constituencies.
- The BJP now has 112 MLAs in the Gujarat Assembly giving it a control over 62% of the total seats in the Assembly
- INC has 55 MLAs and sits in the Opposition
- All other parties and independent MLAs together account for 5 seats
- 1 seat is currently vacant

- 18% MLAs in the current Assembly are Graduates, in comparison to 15% in the previous Assembly.
- 18% MLAs in the current Assembly are highly qualified (professionals and above) in comparison to 24% in the previous Assembly
- Only 8% MLAs in the current Assembly are women
- The percentage of women in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly has decreased from 9% in 2007 and 2012 to 8% in 2017 and remains one of the lowest across all states in India.
