  • 683K schools (45.3% of total schools) in India did not have a permanent Headmaster/Principal in 2019-20. 9% of all schools had only a non-permanent (Acting Head Teacher).
  • 51% of government schools did not have a permanent Headmaster/Principal compared to 34% private schools and 47% madarsas.
